Today’s Work

We wrote down the rules of Roll Sort. The game is simple on purpose, and the rules are short enough to read in a minute.

The rules

  • One tap. Long rolls of gimbap sit on the lanes at the bottom of the screen. Tap a roll and it is sliced into pieces.
  • One piece at a time. A single tap sends one piece. Hold your finger down and the pieces keep coming until you let go.
  • Ride the belt. The pieces travel around a ring belt that keeps moving on its own.
  • Match the shape. Each piece drops through a funnel into the bowl that matches its shape. Bowls are matched by silhouette, not by colour.
  • Eight shapes. Circle, triangle, square, pentagon, hexagon, star, crescent and heart.
  • Sorted or mixed. A roll holds one shape. Tap a single roll and its pieces come out in a clean row. Tap several rolls and the shapes mix on the belt.
  • The funnel decides. Pieces fall and settle by physics. You choose what to send; the funnel decides how it lands.
  • Do not fill the belt. If pieces have nowhere to go and the belt fills up, the run ends.

What we are aiming for

Roll Sort is meant to be easy to reach. It is a game you can open on the way to work, or in a quiet minute when you want to clear your head. The rules stay few, the screen stays readable, and one hand is enough.

Simple does not mean shallow. Choosing which roll to send, and when to stop, is the whole game. But nothing stands between you and the first tap.
